The shores of Wadi El Gamal national park, Egypt, boast enough coral reefs to keep throngs of visiting divers happy every year. Home to hundreds of spinner dolphins and even the elusive dugong, this length of coastline offers endless marine life, but is now facing a serious new reality. Vast tides of plastic, lazily making their way from local cities that surround the Red Sea. Approximately 2250km of marine life at stake, indisputably vital to Egypt’s economy.

 

But where do we start? Whilst capping visitor numbers at coastline resorts could relieve the immense pressure put on local reefs, a long term solution is long overdue. Partnered with Greenpeace, these photos investigate the plight of Egypt's national parks.
